Benefits Of Shower Pods For Keyworker

With a working lifespan of up to 30 years, low maintenance requirements, and an attractive, modern appearance, shower pods are an attractive alternative to conventional shower cubicles in NHS key worker accommodation units. Shower pods are a great fit for key worker housing for various reasons, including:

1. Lower Risk Of Water Damage:

The self-integrated and contained construction of our shower pods minimises the risk of water damage to the surrounding room and the structure of the building. Each shower part is designed with a close ‘hermetic’ seal mechanism between its three modules, reducing the potential for water seepage and leaks. By mitigating this risk of water related issues, including damp, mould, mildew, and damage to carpets, plasterwork, and soft furnishings, shower pods offer a valuable advantage to housing providers in maintaining the cleanliness and longevity of their key worker facilities.

2. Perfect For Compact Spaces:

Our shower pods are specifically designed to optimise space utilisation in properties of all sizes, making them the ideal solution for compact key worker flats and apartments with limited room for traditional bathrooms fittings. The self-contained nature of each shower pod means that it can be installed in a smaller space, offering comfortable and accessible shower facilities without compromising the available space.

3. Fast And Easy Installation:

In contrast to traditional shower cubicles, shower pods are extremely quick and straightforward to install. Each unit is prefabricated off-site and can be assembled and fitted at the accommodation site in a fraction of the time needed for traditional shower construction – usually less than a day required for each unit. This has multiple benefits for large-scale refurbishments and new builds: not only does it reduce labour costs for the client, but also minimises disruption to any residents, enabling a faster turnaround time and easier project management.

4. Low Maintenance:

Shower pods are manufactured from durable and easy to clean fibreglass that requires minimal upkeep to sustain a hygienic and pristine appearance. The seamless GRP surface is naturally resistant to both water damage and mould growth, reducing the need for rigorous maintenance and making it easier for occupants and facilities managers to sustain a safe and hygienic environment.

Recent Projects With Key Worker Accommodation Providers

Two recent examples of our work with key worker accommodation providers are the projects we carried out for Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing in 2022/2023. Our client, Metropolitan Thames Valley, who we had previously worked with in 2020 by providing new shower pods for student accommodation at the University of Surrey, had commissioned extensive refits of key worker accommodation used by NHS staff at two sites in London and Oxford.

For each of the projects, we installed 110 new shower pods in block release over the course of eight months, working alongside the lead contractor in charge of the refurbishment work.
