Are Shower Pods Suitable For Church Of England Diocesan Accommodation?
Posted by Mark Peers
The Church of England is currently looking for ways to support its employees. With younger generations approaching the diocese in unprecedented numbers, the need for accommodation renovations and newbuilds has never been more pressing. However, are shower pods the solution for your diocese? The answers to these four common questions should help you to decide.
Are Shower Pods Suitable For Large Estates?
Shower pods are independent units that are designed to be installed into multiple types of space. Sometimes, our leak-proof pods are organised into a single washroom servicing a dormitory. Alternatively, they can be neatly fitted into an en-suite. Shower pods are custom designed, so the number of pods in a given space is a simple question of mathematics. If you need five pods in one washroom, or a single washroom with one pod, Advanced Showers can help.
Can I Install Shower Pods In Older Accommodation?
Shower pods are designed to suit both older and newer accommodation equally. In older accommodation, including listed properties, they slot neatly into awkward spaces and do not require complex plumbing. Leak-proof, they do not present any challenges to the building integrity. Shower pods are sensitively designed, with a range of shapes and styles available, enabling them to add a well-deserved touch of luxury without harming the aesthetic. This is equally the case in newbuilds, where shower pods can blend with the tone of the requirement, especially in the case of retreats.
Can I install Shower Pods In Listed Buildings?
Shower pods are one of the only types of bathroom installation that is possible in listed buildings, including many historic rectories. Planning permission for anything else is almost impossible. As independent units, they do not interfere with the architecture and physical structure of the property. The alternative is something such as a wet room, which requires extensive concrete composite underlay and thus extensive planning permission. Shower pods slot neatly into place, and can be equally neatly removed, thereby satisfying most Graded listing standards.
Are Stepped Installations Possible With Diocesan Shower Pods?
Stepped installations (Showers with a step up and into) are crucial in many settings. At Advanced Showers, we install these in settings such as NHS keyworker accommodation, University residences, and boarding schools. The aim is to install the shower pods quickly and without anybody noticing. As the installation takes just a few hours and does not required altering the existing floors, this is achievable. With good project management, it is even possible to perform the installation of stepped solutions on sites where there is very little storage space. For instance, we can deliver and install one – or potentially more – shower pods per day.
