Bespoke Shower Enclosures For Student Accommodation

At Advanced Showers we understand the requirements of University and student accommodation because of our long experience in supplying and fitting leakproof self-contained shower pods in new builds and refurbishments in colleges, boarding schools, hotels and other residential organisations. For example, within Oxford Colleges and Schools we have been installing both standard and bespoke shower enclosures for over 20 years. It is a successful relationship because our leakproof and durable units fit perfectly with the specifications and expectations for the high usage levels associated with student living.

What Are Shower Pods?

The shower pods manufactured in our Coventry factory arrive on-site in light horizontal sections that securely bolt together to form a single unit for installation. The assembly is fast to complete and a shower pod can be installed and commissioned far faster than a conventional tile and tray shower cubicle. The single unit design means they are totally leakproof and the construction material gives them a very long life.

What Are Shower Pods Made From?

Advanced Showers units are made from glass-reinforced plastic (GRP), also known as glass fibre-reinforced plastic (GFRP). This is a plastic matrix reinforced by very fine fibres of glass to create a fibre reinforced polymer that is very robust, lighter than metal equivalents and extremely strong. It is more flexible than carbon fibre and not as brittle but best of all, it can be easily moulded into many designs.

How Long Do Shower Pods Last?

The GRP material that they are made from has an expected lifespan of 20 to 30 years and retains its high gloss finish despite many years of student wear and tear. Not only are they highly durable and long lasting but they are also practically maintenance free. That means no black mould, or having to replace old and cracked grout or broken shower trays.

What Makes Shower Pods Leakproof?

First of all, the assembly uses a system of gaskets that click together to create a seal that does not require mastic and through which water cannot permeate during showering. Secondly, the tray is an integral part of the unit, with zero joints to leak water. The construction material itself is completely waterproof and is often used to make boats and yachts. All of that means that our shower pods do not leak.

How Quickly Can They Be Installed?

The shower pods are delivered on site in two, three or four horizontal sections that are light and easy to manoeuvre through corridors, up stairwells and through doorways. They can usually be installed in a few hours by a single tradesperson. That makes them much more cost effective than conventional tile and tray shower cubicles that could require multiple tradespersons with the attendant increased administration and supervision requirement and greater risk of project slippage.

What Standard Shapes And Sizes Are Available?

The tray size varies to accommodate different locations. For example, our quadrant shape is perfectly suited to corners while the square and pentangle shapes suit alcoves or just against a wall. Visit the Products page of our website to see the many models available.

When Are Bespoke Units Required?

Where a number of unique shapes and/or dimensions are required, our factory in Coventry can fabricate special bespoke moulds to create the unique shower pods required. There are obviously a wide number of reasons why non-standard pods might be required for a new build or refurbishment of student accommodation. Read more about bespoke showers here.
